Sažetak
Primorsko-Goranska County realizes a significant share of Croatian tourism traffic. Therefore, tourism is viewed as an unquestionable strategic economic baseline of this County, whose development is aimed at improving the competitiveness of the County on the tourism market as well as improving the life quality of local residents. The purpose of the paper is to analyze the influences of global recession on tourism in the Primorsko- Goranska County. In order to identify the most important impacts, the data that reveal the changes in the structure and distribution of tourism traffic in Primorsko- Goranska County in the year 2009 is gathered and analyzed. The results are compared with the planned courses of tourism development. Special attention is given to the measures and actions employed by hospitality companies in 2009, whose goal was to reduce the influence of recession on their business results. The goals of the paper are: (a) to determine the key recession influences on tourism traffic of Primorsko-Goranska County ; (b) to define the long-term implications that the present market development will have for the strategic development goals of the Primorsko-Goranska County ; and, finally (c) to determine the spectrum and efficacy of the different anti- recession measures implemented by hospitality companies.
