Sažetak
The economic function is one of the fundamental and permanent functions of the family. In the modern world, the economic function has a twofold significance for the development of children: it determines the educational requirements and includes the educational aspect in terms of development of financial literacy as one of the modern man’s core competencies. The long-lasting economic crisis has a negative impact on the family. Based on the systematic research (Eurostat, Eurofound), this was recognized as child poverty, social deprivation, lack of educational opportunities, and negative aspects of parenting. Economic uncertainty, unemployment, and the failure to meet the basic family needs encourage increased parental stress, and indirectly correlate with the unacceptable behavior of parents. Due to insufficient longitudinal studies of the long-term educational outcomes of children who are growing up in conditions of the economic crisis, a survey was conducted on the opinions of experts from various fields who are professionally involved in the monitoring of the quality of family functioning, and children’s development in Croatia. Through anonymous group discussion and by using the classical Delphi method in three rounds, an estimate was agreed on which indicates that the economic crisis has long-term negative impacts on children. The economic function of the family is recognized as an important family function (M=4.09 ; SD=1.08) which is associated with the quality of family functioning (P≤.05). It is assumed that, as a result of the economic crisis and lack of social support parenting, the parental stress will grow. In turn, this will have a negative impact on the stability of the family (M=4.76 ; SD=93), and decrease the number of children in the family (M=4.64 ; SD=1.02). Research participants assume that it is not justified to expect that the economic crisis will encourage greater cohesiveness of the extended family (M=2.88 ; SD=2.88).
