Sažetak
Long time ago, people used to draw the first maps on stone rocks and in the sand, and only much later they started to paint them manually. Compared to modern methods, such method was rather slow and exhausting. Those were real maps, and today we have web- maps or maps on web that can be described as virtual maps, at least until they are converted into real maps. Real maps are used today with high percentage among users, but the tendency of using personal digital assistants, more recently so called smart phones has been growing for years. Both devices have GPS receiver installed and can serve for navigation and orientation by means of the maps stored in the device itself or on website. All media known so far and used for the transfer of information, i.e. of maps, have their own advantages and disadvantages, only those have prevailed that have the characteristics of transferability or mobility (e.g. paper, personal digital assistant, and similar). The advantages are contained in the possibility of obtaining web-map at request, i.e. of the maps that provide the possibility for users to define the presented contents. However, more user control over maps could also be a disadvantage and affect the quality of a map. Classical cartographic theory is still a very good basis for creating or designing a web-map applying thereby new tools and possibilities provided by web, but also its limitations.
