Sažetak
The project entitled “Genetics and physiology of multiple stress tolerance in maize” funded by Croatian Science Foundation is based upon a series of false dichotomies. The main goal of this project was to elucidate and integrate common genetic and physiological mechanisms underlying the multiple-stress tolerance in maize in two contrasting geographic regions of Croatia and Turkey in the context of climate change. Chlorophyll fluorescence parameters and other stress indicators were investigated in four-year field and pot experiments. Results of phenotyping/genotyping of two maize populations for traits related to abiotic/biotic stresses evaluated in field/pot experiments in Croatia/Turkey are discussed within the framework of DNA marker-assisted selection and/or genomic selection.
