Sažetak
Becoming a parent represents one of the major life transitions, in which partners become parents who have to adjust to extensive challenges and changes in personal and dyadic domain. Even though there are numerous studies about transition to parenthood in different cultures, just last couple of years this topic has become research interest in Croatia. First of all, focus will be on theoretical model and research approaches that have been attempted to answer the question of whether is transition to parenthood crisis or just one of the expected developmental changes. To fully understand the effects of the transition to parenthood it is necessary to include perspective of both partners/parents. Especially because, results of many studies suggest that costs and benefits of parenthood are not the same thing for men and women. On transition to biological parenthood in heterosexual couples. To comprehend wider context of psychosocial adjustment to parenthood it is necessary to give some attention to transition to adoptive parenthood including infertile and same-sex couples. Many studies emphasize that psychological distress is quite common and vary in different phases of transition to parenthood. Those challenges are visible in changes of marital quality, and they also can be reflected in experience symptoms of depression and anxiety. Namely, the way partners work together as parents can be linked with their psychosocial adjustment across transition to parenthood. Effective early intervention can be supportive in developing capacities of competent partner and parent.
