Sažetak
In the last few decades Istra County as a region had been severely affected by migration processes and structural economy changes. The rural areas had been negatively affected both through demographic and agricultural structure. As the total number of inhabitants increased, the density and share of agricultural population had been diminished because of the migration from rural to coastal areas (job market, industry and tourism development). Nowadays the majority of Istra’ s inland is wasteland in agricultural terms and family farms in the coastal areas are mostly pluriactive, struggling in keeping their agricultural production and income at a satisfying level. One way of keeping a family farm associated with agricultural production and family employment is involving new activities on-farm, including tourism, so-called agritourism (as Istra County is a leader in tourism branch of Croatia). Through a field research we examined the opinions of householders and future successors about agritourism correlated with a number of farm characteristics (agricultural income, farm size, housing and communal equipment, age, education, employment etc). The results showed that in generally successors are more likely to accept new development strategies involving agritourism on-farm, what is found valid also for smaller farms and farms with higher agricultural income.
