Sažetak
Rickettsiae are the causative agents of various human diseases, which are classified into following groups: Spotted fever, Typhus, Scrub typhus, Trench fever and Q fever. The last one is zoonosis caused by Coxiella burnetii and is often manifested by pneumonia. 144 sera samples of 80 patients from North Dalmatia were examined for rickettsial antibodies during the last year at the Institute of Microbiology in Ljubljana. One of the most frequent clinical diagnosis was Pneumonia (14 patients - 17.5%). In 8 cases (57.14%) from this group the acute Q fever was confirmed by presence of specific IgM antibodies against phase II C.burnetii antigen (7 patients) and/or by elevation of specific IgG antibodies by using indirect immunofluorescent antibody test. In other cases acute infection with Mycoplasma pneumoniae was confirmed, using enzyme immunoassay and in one of these the concomitant infection due to Rickettsia conorii was observed. The aim of this contribution Is to present some clinico-diagnostical aspects of C.burnetii infection, emphasizing the importance of correct interpretation of serologic results in confirming the acute Q fever.
