Sažetak
The paper deals with noun compounds in English, where it is usual for nouns to be used as adjectives, preceding the head of a noun phrase. Due to their frequent occurrence in scientific and technical English the compounds require a particular attention in the ESP teaching. Failing to understand syntactic and semantic relationships existing between its components may considerably obfuscate the meaning, if not obstruct the process of its correct interpretation. The authors specifically focus on maritime English, proposing a classification with the aim of contributing to better understanding of semantic relationship between the compound constituents, relying upon the research conducted by Prof. Bartolić and Prof. Master.
