Sažetak
Moderate consumption of wine is emphasised as a precondition regarding wine's positive influence on health. The objective of the paper is to investigate Croatian consumers’ opinion regarding (i) wine's influence on health and (ii) to identify what the health benefits are. Data were collected using a self-administrated questionnaire designed to assess opinions of Croatian adult consumers. Participants were of both genders with different educational levels and related to the wine sector. The findings imply that 88% of women and 68% of men are convinced that wine has positive influence on health. According to the results of research red wine has the most positive influence on health regardless the gender. Wine has positive influence on blood pressure lowering (67% of women), prevention of arteriosclerosis (67% of men, 53% of women) and it has an overall relaxing effect (67% of men, 52% of women). As the respondents were related to the wine sector, it is possible that their attitude to wine is not entirely objective but is partly result of personal preference. Therefore, it would be necessary to involve subjects from other relevant areas (biotechnical and medical sciences) in the research in order to get more objective results.
