Sažetak
Until recently rickettsioses were divided into the following 4 groups: typhus group, TGR (R. prowazekii, R. typhi, R. felis, R. Canada), scrubtyphus (Orientia tsutsugamushi), spotted fever, SFG (R. rickettsii, R. conorii, R. sibirica, R. rhipicephali, R. montana, R. parked, R. australis, R.akan, R. africae, R. israeli, R. honei, Astrakhan spotted fever rickettsia) and Coxiella burnetii (Q fever). Today, this classification has been significantly altered due to discoveries of new rickettsiae and new knowledge about known rickettsiae. Genomic research such as determination of nucleotide sequence of the 16S rRNA, research into the DNA-DNA reassociation, polymorphism analysis of complete DNA or genomic fragments, plasmid analysis, have enabled molecular identification of demanding intracellular bacteria, that reveal no phenotype characteristics usually used in classification of bacteria. The application of these molecular methods, especially analysis of 16S rRNA, has enabled determination of phylogenetic relations between bacterial species and has created a basis for reclassification of rickettsiae. Thus, according to nucleotide sequence of the 16S rRNA, Coxiella burnetii is classified into y-subgroup of Proteobactena, while Rickettsia, Orientia and Ehdichia genera are classified into the alpha-1 subgroup. Through genome research, and according to 16S rRNA similarity, it was determined that species from two genera Rochalimaea and Bartonella are mutually related to the degree that they justify reclassification and categorization of these bacteria into a unique genus Bartonella, which, due to its unrelatedness with rickettsiae, was omitted from the order Rickettsiales and tribe Rickettsieae. According to current classification, the tribe Rickettsieae includes genus Rickettsia and newly established genus Orientia.
