Sažetak
The Ministry of Science of the Republic of Croatia in its attempt to accelerate the scientific activity, facilitate exchange of research information and scientists assigned to the establishment and development of computer networks with a very high priority. In order to achieve this, the CARNet project was initiated. Its goal is to interconnect existing and future local area networks in the academic and scientific community acting as national backbone. However, since most of scientific institutions have only rudimentary computing equipment the project had to do even one step further: it is providing institutions with initial computer equipment necessary to utilize benefits of networking.
