Sažetak
Regardless of all efforts in the field of deinstitutionalization, the problem of institutionalized juvenile delinquents remains and thus specific measures are urgently needed that can reduce the negative impact of institutionalization. Institutionalized juvenile delinquents are not prepared for the independent life that awaits them. Juvenile delinquents described that period as ‘the time when everything actually begins’. Many of them are faced with the fear of meeting old friends, living with parents, living in old neighborhoods. If they can’t return to their parent's home, they feel even more afraid of life after the institution. They have to find a job and an apartment, they have to start cooking and doing laundry for themselves, and they have to start arranging their finances. Minor, and for other people, simple tasks (like opening a bank account) are very difficult and complicated for most of them. While comparing the time when they first came into institution and the end of institutionalization they say that at the end of treatment they feel even more dependent on adults. Due to that stress, lack of information and lack of support, juvenile delinquents are more likely to commit new crime and/or they are in risk to become dependent on social welfare. Program Contact is based upon the research into the needs of children and young people in Children’s Homes without proper parental care and in homes for juvenile delinquents It is. also, based on research into the needs of young people who left an institution and started independent life. Key Questions How to make young people aware of other opportunities and not to make them feel excluded? How to control the desire to help? How to put idea that ‘every soul counts’ into financial reality?
