Sažetak
The purpose of this paper was to investigate, analyse and describe the role journalistic texts occupy in forming attitudes about music among the student population in Croatia. The aim of text consuming is to help in forming the impression and making judgements about musical events and products. The articles in media influence the picture of our musical preferences, especially for that consumer who is less musically educated. The Croatian media space is nowadays full of numerous problems, degradation of information, commercialized media contents, yellowness, censorship and self-censorship etc. The aim of this research has been to establish what the purpose of music- publicist texts is. Based on the defined aim there are the following tasks we wanted to determine: what is the purpose of an article about music ; do music-publicist texts affect the individual and the issue of credibility and accuracy of criticism and critics. For the purposes of this research a questionnaire named The influence of music publicist writing on understanding and perceiving music was prepared by the authors. The questions in the questionnaire were primarily related to journalism - analytical and publicistic types: music critiques, columns, retrospections and reviews of musical events, recordings and scores. The study included students from the third and fourth year of the Juraj Dobrila University (Croatia). The research results have shown the students’ opinion about the purpose of music- publicist texts to be, before all, giving guidelines for visiting certain concerts, buying sound recording media and listening to a certain type of music, but at the same time they recognize the connection between the purpose of music-publicist texts and the market promotion of musicians performers, composers, text author, a work of music. According to the research’s results it can be noticed that for more than 70 per cent of the examinees the media discourse does not change their opinions about musical occurrences (works, performances, books, note/audio/audiovisual publications). Students participating in our research have been quite critical of publicists who explain and evaluate musical occurrences from different angles. Over 50 per cent of the exminees think that it is impossible for the music-critical discourse to be objective, which is linked to the author of the text, his/her taste, attitude, values, opinions, while over 45 per cent of students are mostly of the opinion that the discourse depends on the ideological and world-view moderation of the text author.
