Sažetak
Formulated mathematical model and the numerical simulation of solidification of casting of relatively complex geometry, gray iron valve housing of eutectic composition, have beeen presented in the paper. Mathematical model has been based on physical realistic assumptions, and has been solved by finite difference method - implicit alternating direction method. The method is chosen because of great accuracy and as is of second order with regard to the time and the space. Initial conditions are derived as analytical solution of heat conduction equation in the case of contact of two different semiinfinite media (mould and metal). The latent heat of fusion incorporated in the equation for specific heat of metal, and temperature depend thermal properties of all materials in the system mould-casting-core, enable to numerically accurately represent solidification of the valve housing, that is the casting which is a common example in the foundry practice. Simulation of solidification enables that in modern and scientific way points to the points in casting where defects occurrence is possible.
