Sažetak
Vulnerable Road Users (VRUs) are the weakest link in the transport system in terms of road safety. Strictly speaking, ''vulnerable'' users are users are cyclists and pedestrians (including children, the elderly, and the disabled). In broader terms, motorcycle drivers are also considered vulnerable. Traffic plans are usually focused on issues relating to traffic flow and the mobility of vehicles (in all modes of transport), without paying enough attention to the safety of the ''vulnerable'' users. ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems), a holistic information superstructure of the traditional transport system, aim to provide innovative services for transport and traffic management, better information for various user groups and a safe, harmonized and smart transport network. The paper presents an overview of the current developments and implementations in the field of road safety improvements for vulnerable road users in urban areas.
