Sažetak
Physical activity represents a complex challenge to the liver and is inevitably accompanied with an increased metabolic and energetic demands of the working muscle. It would not be possible without the liver adapting to demands of the physical activity. The liver releases, stores and recycles energy. Processes in the liver following physical activity are responsible for recharging glycogen stores. Liver adapts to repeated demands by increasing its capacity to produce energy from fat. This ability of regular physical activity to increase fat oxidation is health-protective and can reverse fatty liver disease. Metabolic demands of a working muscles require mobilization of energy from its stores, recycling metabolites and converting chemical agents that are toxic to chemically inactive forms ready to be excreted. Adverse functional liver changes can develop if habitual physical activity is inadequate, and extremely prolonged competitive physical activity may also be harmful, particularly under harsh environmental conditions.
