Sažetak
The chapter demonstrates how picturebook research benefits from narratology in understanding its unique structure and its relationships with other kinds of narratives. A semiotic model is presented, showing that story in picturebooks is told in cooperation of two narrators, embedded in two separate discourses, verbal and visual. Both discourses are typically intermedial and develop specific strategies to convey narrative meanings. Re-reading and dialogue are crucial aspects of the narrative communication. Finally, explorations of story elements, such as the representation of characters, and the notions of narrativity and storyworld, reveal new ways of adopting and fine-tuning narratological methodology for picturebook research.
