Sažetak
Blatsko polje is located in the most western part of the island of Korčula, southern Dalmatia, Croatia.There are numerous poljes on the Island, and Blatsko polje is the lowest. It collects water from a few smaller poljes and the surrounding area. The test area is situated about 1, 3 km from the Adriatic, and covers 28, 4 km2. The altitude ranges from 5.2 - 388 m a.s.l. The polje has an altitude range from 5.2 to 15 m a.s.l., and extends around 3 km2 over the ground. There are four public extraction sites (wells) used for this part of the island of Korčula and the most important well today is the “Studenac” well, situated in eastern part of the polje close to the “Mali Studenac” estavelle. It extracts above 50 L/s even during the dry season and a salinity increase is rare and connected with extreme hydrological conditions. Other wells are less important and together participate in the public water supply with up to 15 L/s. In the past, Blatsko polje was often flooded and there was a marshy lake in the lowest part, until in 1912 a trough network and drainage tunnel were constructed to remove water surpluses during periods of high groundwater levels.
