Sažetak
Bukovica region of present day Croatia is an area situated in deep Zadar hinterland, between Southern Velebit and area of Ravni Kotari. It is characterised by rugged karst formations, scarce water sources and rare karst fields. These conditions led to the emergence of a special kind of animal husbandry characterized by seasonal migration of herders between Bukovica and Velebit. As this activity was practised until recently, it is ethnographically well documented. Consideration of ethnographic analogies and information about the life in the region during more recent time periods already enabled some archaeological studies of landscape usage in earlier time periods. As results of conducted studies allow the assumption that in Bukovica, economics based on pastoralism can be traced during not only historic but also prehistoric times, evidence for this special way of life, usually hardly traceable in the archaeological record, can be implicated by the analysis of landscape. For this type of research, analysis of imagery gathered through aerial reconnaissance represents a significant type of approach as it allows detailed documentation and study of types, structures and location patterns of archaeological remains.
