The article discusses challenges of sustainable tourism development in the Mediterranean in the new millennium. The first part discusses key features of demographic and economic trends in the Mediterranean, the second part explains the consequences for sustainability of tourism development and the last part the challenges of future sustainable tourism development in the Mediterranean in the light of the new circumstances.
