Sažetak
Phosphorus is among the major limiting nutrient elements in agricultural soils due to its natural chemical tendencies. Total phosphorus content in many soils can be large but, only small fraction is available for root uptake due to soils inherent properties such as microbial action, acidity/basicity and adsorption- desorption kinetics. Many soil P tests that are widely used at present do not represent the natural mechanisms that govern phosphorus availability in the soil. Therefore, results of these tests do not necessarily reflect yield response of crops. Thus, diffusive gradient in thin film (DGT), a novel, more mechanistic method of measuring plant-available P in the soil was tested. The aim of the study was to compare the yield predictive capability of P-DGT versus conventional P analysis (P-AL, P-H2O) using the relation of each method’s measured P and yield response of winter wheat. Archived soil samples from long term soil fertility study across Sweden with treatments on different rates of P fertilizer in combination with manure application were used in this experiment. The results of the experiment revealed that, P- DGT and P-H2O are more robust in predicting yield of winter wheat than P-AL across different soil types with diverse soil physico- chemical properties. It also showed that P measurement with P-DGT is not affected with manure application. Additionally, critical value of P-DGT derived in the experiment ranges from 11 µg L-1 (0.35 µM) to 27 µg L-1(0.87 µM) which appeared to be lower than previously reported.
