Sažetak
Pivka area in the easternmost Kras region of SW Slovenia paleogeographically belongs to the NW sector of the Adriatic Carbonate Platform (ACP) that was tectonically incorporated in the NW part of the External Dinarides during Cenozoic Alpine orogenesis (Otoničar, 2007 ; Korbar, 2009). The Kras region is built predominantly of Cretaceous to Paleogene carbonates (Jurkovšek et al., 2016), that are mainly characterized by a small hiatus spanning Cretaceous–Paleogene (K–Pg) boundary (Ogorelec et al., 2007). Although the hiatus is a common feature of almost whole ACP (Vlahović et al., 2005), there are at least two known exceptional sections in the SW part of the ACP (present day Dalmatian archipelago) that are characterized by a continuous K–Pg succession and by an unusual deposit at the K–Pg boundary interpreted as a major tsunamite (Korbar et al., 2015, 2017), related to the Chicxulub asteroid impact (Schulte et al., 2010).
