Sažetak
In the Sports-Philosophy literature, the Ethics of Sport (ES) and the Bioethics of Sport (BS) are two connected and convergent fields, with the overlapping thematic scope. Author’s intention is to investigate the relation(s) and determine the distinction(s) between the two. The research was conducted by the application of the critical analysis method, comparative historical research method, and a critical review method. As the author has shown in the previous work that the contours and divisions of the ES are clear (Škerbić, FSFV Conference Proceedings, 2016), in this paper his primary aim is to determine the BS ones. In addition, BS was recognized, entitled and thematized as such in four major bibliographical efforts: S. Camporesi's article in the Handbook (2015), T. H. Murray's in the 2nd edition of the Encyclopedia of Bioethics (1995, Warren T. Reich ed.), A. J. Schneider's in the 3rd edition (2004, Stephen G. Post ed.), and A. Miah's in the 4th edition (2016, Henke ten Have ed.). Articles include issues of doping and enhancements, health and medicine, gender, human body and disability/paralympism, biotechnology and genetics. Furthermore, in the pursuit for thematic comprehensiveness, the author is using the Integrative Bioethics perspective which includes additional topics regarding Nature and Life-related issues. Author has uncovered three significant distinctions. Firstly, thematic scope of the BS stays within the practical horizon of dealing with the bio-medical-technological development and life-centered issues, while ES goes beyond- into the metaethical and ontological considerations (both) of its roots and groundings, as well as into other morally questionable appearances in and regarding the sports. Secondly, the BS is dealing (mostly) with the future of the sport, whilst ES is dealing with the future on an equal footing as with the past and present. And thirdly, ES’s roots, background, tradition, development, and argumentation are the BS’s vital necessity and pre-condition.
