Sažetak
The paper will reflect on the multidimensional role of cultural heritage in promoting the key values of the European identity, such as democracy, tolerance, solidarity, diversity, peace and intercultural dialogue in the turbulent global context. Bearing in mind the challenges facing the European Union, as well as recent policy documents related to European heritage and the European Year of Cultural Heritage, we will discuss sustainable models of valorisation of transnational heritage which could promote European values through cultural education, community participation and sustainable cultural tourism. Our analysis will be based on the research and teaching experience and project team work in the framework of the recent European projects related to valorisation of transnational heritage in the city of Pula, Croatia, as well as in other Central European countries, such as Italy, Germany, Austria and Poland. On the base of the conducted research we will suggest models of valorisation of the common European heritage, which could enhance international cooperation and intercultural dialogue in the wider region. The paper will present innovative practices of awareness raising and capacity building related to promotion of the core European values through valorisation of transnational heritage at the local, national and international level.
