Sažetak
The paper will present recent research on the development potential of industrial heritage in Croatia, with emphasis on mining heritage in Labin and Raša, (post)industrial communities in the Croatia’s westernmost region Istria. Elaborating the history and importance of this industrial tradition for local communities as well as its current condition and opportunities for future revitalization, the authors will reflect on the relation between global heritage policies and local cultural traditions. A particular emphasis will be given to collaboration issues and communication challenges between different stakeholders at the local and regional level, as well as to problems related to promoting sustainability and entrepreneurship in challenging contexts of today predominantly rural communities. The main goal of our research was to explore how this specific combination of unique cultural and natural heritage, rural traditions and industrial practices, could be used in sustainable local and regional development, with emphasis on cultural or experience economy, creative and eco-tourism.
