Sažetak
The paper will reflect on the importance of awareness raising and capacity building campaigns related to World Heritage values in sustainable tourism and community development, with particular emphasis on the World Heritage Sites in Croatia. Besides elaboration of the sustainability of tourism in the current World Heritage Sites in Croatia (Dubrovnik, Plitvice Lakes etc), the research will include the analysis of potential for transnational nominations of the common European and World Heritage in the wider region. The paper will present local experiences of community involvement in participatory heritage management, innovative education and capacity building campaigns, the role of specialist groups as well as successful models of conservation partnerships.
