Sažetak
The criteria for the classification of English and German texts for specific purposes are largely based on the communication situation and the function of the text contents. The basic functions of texts are those of information, instruction, and declaration. The contents of a text comprise the topic of the text expressed through descriptive, narrative, instructive, expository, and argumentative forms. This paper thus focuses on typology of texts used in seven textbooks intended for teaching German at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Osijek, in order to determine which text type is mostly used and to explain why.
