Sažetak
The paper will present the research project conducted in the framework of the course Travel Writing and Cultural Routes. We explored the possibility of a new reading of the most important travelogues along the Adriatic coast as a model for design of new Mediterranean itineraries and European cultural routes. We analyzed European travel writing inspired by the Adriatic coast in the interdisciplinary framework of Mediterranean cultural studies and imagology, as a reflection of tourist activity in literary works and a specific form of interpretation of cultural and natural heritage. As models of discovery, representation and construction of Mediterranean imagery and exotic Arcadia on the edges of European civilization we explored the images of the Adriatic coast in the travelogues of the most significant travel writers of the Engligtenment, Romanticism, Realism and Modern literature: from Alberto Fortis, Charles Yriarte and Hermann Bahr to contemporary authors.
