Sažetak
10-Gb/s systems will be needed for interoffice transport in the nearest future for increased network survivability, broadband services growth, high-end bussines (data) and computer network applications, perhaps even for the subscriber network. Technological options for 40 Gb/s transmission are also considered, for overcoming fiber dispersion, for evaluating soruces as well as high-speed electronics for analog and digital processing. Erbium-doped fiber amplifiers appear as boosters and preamplifiers in repeaterless transmission up to 160 km.
