Dalmatien scheint ein geeignetes Beispiel für den Versuch eines synthetischen Überblicks, um wenigstens in groben Zügen einige der grundlegenden integrativen und desintegrativen Prozesse darzustellen, welche auf spezifische Art diese kleine, in vielerlei Hinsicht periphere Region geprägt haben, die sich als ehemaliges österreichisches Kronland von der Insel Rab bis zur Bucht von Kotor an der östlichen Adriaküste erstreckte.
