Sažetak
Compulsory education in Croatia lasts 8 years, in Hungary 8 years while in Ireland compulsory education lasts for 11 years. The teaching plan and program in Croatia and Hungary is determined by the Ministry, while in Ireland the Ministry sets basic guidelines according to whom every school draws up its own school curriculum. The program of mother language in Croatia sets out one common goal and several aims according to subject areas, thereafter the aims are determined for every grade. The Irish curriculum determines goals and aims that must be realised by the end of the 6th grade of elementary school, as it is duration of primary school. The Hungarian curriculum sets out exactly specified contents for every level, and teacher is allowed to make tolerance to determined contents up to 10%. In Croatia mother language is taught 6 hours a week from 1st to 4th grade (presently it will be decreased to 5 hours a week). In Hungary, in 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade mother language is taught 8.5 hours a week and in 4th grade 7.4 hours. In Ireland 4.5 hours a week or 20% of the time spent in school is dedicated to language teaching. In schools, the lessons are held mostly in English, except from regions where Gaelige (Irish language) is spoken, the language that most students speak or if the majority of staff, parents and students wish. Psychologically, historically and linguistically, the experience of knowledge of both languages is the right of every Irish child. There are two curricula in Irish language: one for English schools and the other for Irish schools where Irish language is the language of school.
