Sažetak
Water pollution levels are rising daily as increasing amounts of polluted wastewater are discharged from industrial plants into watercourses. However, Croatian wood processing is among those industries which are ecologically aware. The proportion of wastewater discharges that have been purified has increased over the period 1994 to 1997 (from 3% to 9% for sawmills, from 4% to 17% for furniture production, and from 27% to 63% for pulp and paper production plants). Moreover, the same period has seen a significant decrease in water consumption per unit of product. There has been a marked increase over recent years in investment in environment protection measures, and water protection activities are certainly among these
