Sažetak
Analysing the development of rail infrastructure in the Republic of Croatia in the period between 1990 and 2000, we can claim with certainty that the projects and investments were almost non-existent, but unlike railway infrastructure, road infrastructure and tram experienced a certain renaissance. For the sake of example let us just mention the major projects. During the Croatian War of Independence the motorway from Zaprešić to Krapina (Velika Ves) was constructed, as well as a greater section of the motorway Zagreb - Goričan, Zagreb - Bregana, and the motorway Karlovac - Rijeka is being continuously constructed. Also the roads Zagreb - Senj, Zagreb - Split, the Adriatic Highway and many others have been reconstructed and repaired. This neglect towards railways began in the last decade, not only on the international cargo and passenger traffic (Croatian War of Independence), but it had negative effects regarding suburban and urban traffic. The arguments are present in the projects that had been prepared together with the documentation even before the Croatian War of Independence, and these included: insurance of the Zagreb main railway station, construction of the Western ringroad, construction of TPS, construction of the fourth track Dugo Selo - Zaprešić, electrification of the railway line Moravice - Rijeka, then Zaprešić - Zabok, etc., but nothing was realised, for justified and unjustified reasons. Justified - because of the Croatian War of Independence, and unjustified due to the unreadiness of those responsible to take on investment projects, finding excuses in saying that the objects and documentation had not been prepared.
