Sažetak
The main purpose of this chapter is to conceptually examine the role of various community stakeholders when considering the organisation of and participation in local sporting events. Focus is on rural communities with limited financial and operational capacities in order to analyse particular strategies when dealing with the challenges of planning and organising local sporting events. First part of the chapter offers a discussion of leveraging frameworks as a model for the strategic organising, managing and planning of events and outlines primary sport event stakeholders, followed by an elaboration of specific characteristics of rural communities with special emphasis on sense of community and potential relations between those characteristics. Theoretical contributions and concepts elaborated in theory are discussed on the case of Gorski kotar in Croatia.
