Sažetak
As the characteristics of sea water vary among geographical locations due to its chemical, physical and biological properties, the EFC Working Party on Marine Corrosion initiated in 1992 a Collaborative Testing Programme to be performed by several European laboratories,to detect the influence of local parameters, and particularly any tendency,to crevice corrosion of stainless steel. This paper gives results obtained in the Institute for Corrosion and Protection of Materials and for Desalination of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts located in Dubrovnik, on the Adriatic coast in Croatia. The investigation was carried out by monitoring the free corrosion potential and the reduction current of three types of stainless steel UNS S31254,UNS NO8904 and UNS S31600 with mounted crevice formers to detect the initiation and the development of crevice corrosion.Experiments were performed in flowing sea water at two periods of time,i.e. the winter and summer seasons. At the same time microscopical examinations of the metal surface after the electrochemical measurements were also performed.Along with electrochemical measurements the sea water parameters influencing corrosion:pH,temperature, oxygen and chloride concentrations, conductivity and redox potential were followed.
