Sažetak
Carnival reality reflects human nature and its need for relief, release and freedom from the restraints of everyday life. In conservative Dubrovnik Republic that was very important. Masquerading ritual directly designs and supports humanity. Carnival in Dubrovnik has a long tradition, always associated with the celebration of the city's patron saint - St. Blaise. Cultural practices of life in the City were characterized by a system of holidays and customs related to the Christian calendar intertwined with pre-Christian elements of spring celebration. Period of the early Middle Ages was a time when elements of Slavic carnival tradition became the tradition of the City. This is Lupercalia carnival tradition, taken from ancient Rome February festival, with rituals related to fertility, land, livestock and general fertility. Carnival in the Republic almost always is lascivious, deeply satirical condemning and criticizing the current authorities. Carnival was a time of weddings, masquerade balls and a time of comic and erotic joy. Traditional costumes were "Turica", "Bembelj" and "Fairy". They will be closely described and researched in the paper as well as other costumes infused in the tradition of the City from the Middle ages until the end of Dubrovnik Republic.
