Sažetak
This presentation will try to research influences that "Orders against luxury" reflected uppon 16th century Fashion and Costume of Dubrovnik Republic. Statute of Dubrovnik from the 1272. marks the beginning of the Republic and Marmont's act from 1808. ended the era. In Dubrovnik harmony was inhereted virtue, it was a variety of moral forces, such as religion, family, education and patriotism. Moderation is dominated in every move, harmony in Dubrovnik extends to all social classes. The city is organisam on its own, it breaths and gives life like an independent planet in the universe. It is necessary to give up many of the personal freedoms in order to gane one in general. Dubrovnik was no matter how open to influences from the outside, a very conservative environment, where changes are performed gradually and under the watchful eye of the government. There is no external excess in luxury like in Venice, because that luxury was forbidden by law. Senate issued harsh Orders against luxury in 16th century - for example: "When one Dubrovnik citizen or nobile returned from a foreign country, he would be warned to change clothes. If one opposed to this order, he had to pay a money fine and a suit would be cut into pieces." When exploring Fashion and Costume history, looking into everyday life is necessary and indispensable.Considering, both visual and written evidence in Dubrovnik's archives, cultural history of the Republic can reveal intersting picture of rigid and sometimes harsh orders and restrictions in everyday life.
