Sažetak
Project presentation - Project Summary: The JOBSTEM project is conducted in Croatia and is funded by The Croatian Science Foundation from 2015 to 2019. The research team consists of 12 researchers from four countries – France, Hungary, United States and Croatia, affiliated to University of Poitiers, Central European University in Budapest, University of California, Irvine, Faculty of Teacher Education at the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Split, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing at the University of Zagreb and Institute of Social Sciences Ivo Pilar in Zagreb. The JOBSTEM research project is grounded in contemporary theories of academic achievement, self-competence beliefs and vocational interests and it is structured around three main research goals: (i) to examine how students’ general and specific STEM career aspirations are formed and how they change over time ; (ii) to examine how students’ academic achievement and self- competence beliefs are related to their general and specific STEM career aspirations and how the pattern of relations among them changes during the course of primary schooling ; (iii) to examine how students’ general and specific STEM career aspirations are shaped by their families and gender. The JOBSTEM project encompasses longitudinal, experimental, and qualitative methodological approaches. The complete study will implement a longitudinal- sequential (cross-sequential) research design that includes three cohorts of primary school students assessed through three successive years. STEM intervention program is applied in half of the participating primary schools, namely the experimental group and interventions effects encompasses two-group pre- and post- test experimental design. The first wave of measurement includes a cohort of fourth grade students (age 10), a cohort of fifth graders (age 11) and a cohort of sixth graders (age 12). Each cohort will be followed through three measurement waves.: from grade 4 to 6, grade 5 to 7 and grade 6 to 8.
