Sažetak
On the subject of youth and sports, it is evident that sports career starts much earlier than at the moment of accomplishing first noticeable sports result. Elite and professional sports are extremely selective and exclusive. There is a vast number of children, young athletes, who undergo many phases of selection process, which starts at the very early age and lasts till late adolescence. This research study will deal with examples of good selection process practices in the world and in Croatia which, regarding its size and population number, is very successful on international level in many sports. The emphasis of this study will be on different models of talent ID, on selection phases and girls' sprint running selection. Conclusively, this research study will suggest scientifically proven number of easily applicable field tests for use in girls' sprint running selection practice. Concerning available research on the subject, it is suggested that first selection of girls for sprint running is conducted at 11 years of age, the latest. For boys' selection, more research studies need to be conducted.
