Sažetak
The concept of a “Museum of emigration and Global Migration Centre” in Rijeka, under the working title SIGMa, presents the multi- dimensional world of migration in an attractive and highly relevant setting. The port town of Rijeka with its warehouses and its playful interaction between land and sea is the ideal location for such a project. Rijeka symbolizes the meeting-point of adventurous spirits searching for far-away lands and their opposites: the homely, anchored citizens who spend their life on their own doorsteps. With this original project, the town of Rijeka turns itself into a culturally recognizable brand. Such a museum and a multi-purpose center in Rijeka would surely enrich not only the Croatian but also the European cultural heritage. It would attract tourists with a unique proposition: to see and experience the effects of migration on development, society and individual fates. SIGMa will embrace many important aspects of migration throughout Croatian and global history.
