Keratosis palmoplantaris transgrediens
Sažetak
Keratoderma palmoplantaris transgrediens is an autosomal recessive disorder, in the international medical literature most commonly referre to as "Mal de Meleda", i.e. "Mljetska bolest" in Croatia. It was named according to one of the most beautiful Croatian islands - Mljet (Meleda), located to the northwest from the city of Dubrovnik, where the first cases of the disease were reported at the beginning of the 19th century. A 9-month-old boy, born in a consanguine marriage on the island of Mljet, is presented. Three more members of his family had clinical manifestations of the disease. Skin changes occured soon after the birth as symmetrical, diffuse thickening of the skin on the palms and soles. The diagnosis was based on clinical picture, genealogy analysis, and micromorphologic analysis by light and electron microscope. The skin was treated with intensive skin care.
