Sažetak
Although religion is one of the oldest travel motives and has a long tradition on the Croatian territory, this paper examines the relationship between religious tourism and modern tourism on the east Adriatic coast at the end of 19th and on the beginning 20th century. While religious tourism has strongly emphasized spiritual component, this research is based on the research of the two tangible and one intangible features of religious tourism from the "secular" literature which are related to tourism: religious buildings, sites of pilgrimage and religious processions. The intention of this chapter is to contribute to the debate on knowledge of the history of modern religious tourism on the Croatian Adriatic and to emphasize the role / significance of religious tourism in the development of modern tourism in general.
