Sažetak
Awareness and understanding that forest vehicles should satisfy ergonomic and ecological criteria in adition to basic functional demands have been constantly increasing. This is why new vehicles for timber extraction from thinnings were designed to be suitable for cut-to-length, full-tree and tree-length method. The first medium-size skidder was made in Japan and in 1987 several Croatian forest companies initiated the construction of medium-size skidders primarily intended for use in thinning stands of hilly-mountainous regions. The skidder construction started with developing the project design, which was based on principles of the best possible nature conservation without affecting adversely its working characteristics. Since the first prototype was finished, thinning skidders have been modified several times. Modifications started by replacing the protection frame with a cabin and followed by developing further cabin generations so that nowadays the cabin with improved ergonomic characteristics is built in. Comparison between the basic ergonomic characteristics ? ; noise and vibration of different cabin generations is one of the scopes of this paper. Also, the paper deals with the most important characteristics of dynamic weight distribution of vehicle loading during timber extraction, such as: height of center of gravity, distance from center of gravity to rear axle, distance from leading point to rear axle and height of leading point. Comparison between these characteristics is given for three types of thinning skidders and for the group of skidders having characteristics of wheeled skidder family according to morphological analysis of more than 90 types of skidders. All morphological aspects are determined in the dependence of skidder mass. Onwards, the paper presents morphological analysis of form index and positions of these vehicles in the field of medium-size skidder data range.
