Sažetak
The difference in frequency of aseptic meningitis noted for L-Zagreb vaccine strain is not only a reflection of strain characteristics and preparation, but also of variation in study design and clinical practice. Data from routine surveillance during routine vaccination programmes with MMR vaccine using L-Zagreb mumps strain in region of Zagreb for period 1994-2001 were analysed to estimate the risk of vaccine related meningitis. To confirm clinical diagnosis, the samples of affected children have been tested by RT-PCR for SH gene. The results are expressed as the number of distributed doses per one case of vaccine related- meningitis. Two published reports with contradictory results will be discussed concerning that the populations studied had same age distribution, same history of previous mumps infection and vaccine, and the methods used were the same between the studies.
