Sažetak
Nowadays, more and more people are engaged in the process of learning more than one language - second language acquisition. The main purpose of this paper is to analyze the process of the second language acquisition in children and other process included in the second language acquisition. Namely, children may be exposed to the second language acquisition either from their birth or during the education period and this way they become bilingual. In the first few chapters of this paper the theory of second language acquisition and bilingualism are precisely described. Apart from that, the focus is also on the early types of bilingualism development. In the following chapters the attention is mostly given to the processes of language differentiation and the function of motivation in bilingualism. Furthermore, it is also explained what effect bilingualism has on cognitive development. In the end, the last chapters present the main teaching approaches in second language acquisition and the how the environment affects bilinguals.
