Sažetak
Chemical modification of polymer materials with metallic nanoparticles like Ag or ZnO is an important part of producing new functionalized materials with excellent antibacterial, antimicrobial, water resistance and protective properties. The aim of this investigation was characterization of antimicrobial coatings with Ag and ZnO nanoparticles on cellulose materials by scanning electron microscope equipped with the EDX detector (SEM-EDX), FTIR spectroscopy and Nanoparticle tracking analyzer (NTA) methods. Ag and ZnO nanoparticles were synthesized by enzymatically catalized reactions using urease enzyme and design of experiment methodology. Antimicrobial effects of nanoparticles were investigated on model microorganisms (E. coli, S. aureus and C. albicans) by two methods (diffusion and dilution) prior the modification of cellulosa polymers. Coatings with nanoparticles were prepared by sol-gel process using 3-glycidyloxypropyltrimethoxysilane (GLYMO) as a precursor and HCl as a catalyst. Sols with nanoparticles were stirred magnetically and, after addition of reagents, homogenized by ultrasound prior drying for 24 hours. Samples were then characterized by different methods. The results have shown that: i) enyzmatically catalyzed reactions for producing metallic nanoparticles have significant advantages over classical nanoparticles synthesis, but also some drawbacks ; ii) both Ag and ZnO nanoparticles show antimicrobial activity ; and iii) during dip-coating, the ultrasonic homogenization was vital step in obtaining homogenous layers and uniform coatings on cellulose polymers ; Moreover, we have shown that for the characterization of novel functionalized coatings on cellulose carriers, the combination of proposed methodologies (SEM-EDX, FTIR and NTA) offers a significant insight into the coating properties, which is important for their application in textile processing.
