Temporary uretero-cutaneostomy in the treatment of megaureter in neonates
Sažetak
18 newborns and small children with the diagnosis of megaureter have been treated during the past five years. Temporary uretero- cutaneostomy was performed immediately after diagnosis. If, after one year, the kidney function recovers and the normal passage of contrast medium into the bladder is proved, the primary uretero-cutaneostomy is closed. In eight ureters the obstruction persisted and antireflux neostomy at the vertex of the bladder was performed. An Antireflux operation at the vertex of the bladder was also applied for seven ureters without obstruction, but with existing vesicoureteric reflux, ectopic ureter or diverticula. In six patients, the temporary uretero-cutaneostomy was closed without corrective surgery at the vesicoureteric junction. Temporary uretero-cutaneostomy is a safe and effective therapy in primary obstructed urethers of newborns. The spontaneous relief of the obstruction appear to be possible in primary obstructed megaureters.
