Sažetak
The paper will present specifically developed model of research, concerning the use of historical place names and their etymologies in reconstruction of medieval rural landscapes. Corpus of historical toponyms, which was used in the research, was developed as a part of an on-going research project (Documentation and interpretation of earliest Croatian attestations). The presentation will also present tools and methods used during the research. This includes the presentation of the data-base and the usage of GIS. Most of the used place-names are concerned with the usage of land, but there are also examples of social concepts and popular ethymologies. These were used in order to explain or to accentuate the importance of certain features in the landscape
