Sažetak
The text describes a project of designing and producing a series of tactile picture books, with consideration to the assumption of inclusion and the efforts to enable a complete education to all children, within the curriculum of arts courses at the Department of Teacher Education Studies in Gospić, University of Zadar. The project was aimed at sensitizing the students of basic education studies to particular special requirements of blind and visually impaired pupils and at emphasizing the exceptional importance and inevitable role of art in educational processes – art as intermedia experience of creation. Approaching the phenomenon of visual art as a complex, multisensory experience enabled us to introduce students to contemporary art practices, where the accent has shifted from the purely aesthetic features of a work to the concept and means of social communication. The project focused on participatory art process and required a dynamic collaboration with special education teachers and librarians at the First Library for Children with Visual Impairments at Pećine Elementary School in Rijeka, who actively work with blind and visually impaired children.
