Sažetak
Previous researches have shown strong relationship between violent childhood experience and household dysfunction in adulthood. In this research we examine the relationship between experience of childhood maltreatment and the risk of being a victim or perpetrators of intimate partner violence (IPV) among 347 participants, both sexes. Participants were divided in to the three groups: victims, perpetrators and comparison groups of subjects. Exposure to multi-type maltreatment in childhood was assessed with the Comprehensive Child Maltreatment Scales for Adults, while IPV was assessed using Revised Conflict Tactics Scale (CTS2). The results have shown that individuals exposed to different forms of child abuse and neglect was more vulnerable to all forms of the examined violent behaviours in intimate relationships compared to the non-violent participants. Exposure to neglecting and witnessing family violence in childhood predicted perpetration of IPV, while witnessing family violence and physical abuse had significant predictive power for victimization in intimate relationship. The results confirm that exposure to different forms of abuse and neglect in childhood can have a negative effect on the ability of both men and women to establish and maintain healthy intimate relationships in adulthood.
